The Mana in Kai, The Power in Food

Kai Café
Nourishment, Connection, and Manaaki

Kai Café was created for whānau who wanted to treat themselves to something special – a sweet, savoury, and a hot or cold inu – in a space where everyone is welcome, no matter their financial situation. With a gold coin koha or no cost at all, it's a way for whānau to enjoy a small luxury before the weekend, to feel human, to connect, and to kōrero.

Coming together

Held in a warm and welcoming environment, the café also supports kai security and self-sufficiency:

We offer a kai sharing table, where people can leave or take excess fruit, vegetables, or herbs from their māra.

We regularly provide seedlings to support whānau to grow their own kai.

Our focus is on building resilience, community connection, and mana-enhancing spaces for all.
